custom closet

 custom closet

This closets is made of glued-laminated pine boards, except for the middle drawers section, made out of glued-laminated oak boards. The white structured door panels are originating from Ikea, but dimensions were not fitting the project (the doors were ~20 cm too short and ~15 cm too wide). In order to increase the heights of the doors, middle sections, actually left overs of solid oak parquet flooring, were added.

 rusted-steel garden gate

The frame is made out of welded square steel tubes, covered with rusted metal plates. The plates were left outside until their surfaces got rusted as desired, then cut in shapes of blades of grass with an angle grinder… if I had to do it again, I would definitelly invest in a CNC/laser cutting machine.

 terrace wood table

The table legs X-structure is made out of recycled wooden beams, recovered from the previous  renovation of our house (fake ceiling replacement for insulation purpose). It is tinted with Bio Carbonil®. The top planks, forming the table deck, are new pine wood planks, treated with marine varnish, after some seasons left “naked” for patina of time.

hanging garden

 hanging garden

The reason for building this hanging garden is to preserve vegetables from being attacked by crawling insects pests (mainly slugs), and also to offer a relaxation shadowed zone to look at the kids playing the garden. The structure is made of (hard) pine, treated with Bio Carbonil®. The covering plants (currently) are vines and raspberry canes. Let’s see if this winter changes the deal…

stairwell cedar doors

 stairwell cedar doors

These 2 doors have pine frames. Each sides of the doors are made of shuttering panels, covered by Cedar pine wood. The panels can be easily removed in case maintenance needs. Due to the weight of the doors, no hinges are fixed to the surrounding walls. Instead, one axis per door goes through the entire door to reach the ceiling on one end, and in the ground on the other end. 3 wheels per door support their weights.

pallet-like bar

 pallet-like bar

This bar is not made out of up-cycled pallet wood, as initially intended.  The main reason is that we are never sure about which (toxic) treatment the pallets may have received in their former transportation lifes, and this piece of furniture is to come into contact with food and children.

bar stools

 fur bar stools

A bar is not worth it if it is not accompanied with stools. The stools wooden structure is pine, tinted with natural pigment (black walnut hull tincture). The seat is compounded of 2 different synthetic foams, with different densities: one thick layer of low density foam that fills the most of the cushion of the seat: it flattens quite easily once someone sits upon, and a thinner but high density layer, for the comfort (not to feel the wooden structure through…). All covered by synthetic fur (no, no animals were injured).

 terrace tiled roof

This terrace roof is entirely made out pine beams and treated with Bio Carbonil®. The tiles are actually left-overs form the carport build by the previous owners of our house. Rain waters are collected into a tank, in order to  water the vegetables growing under the roof (tomatoes, and other vegetables sensitive to direct rain drop contact).

upcycled oak wardrobe

old oak wardrobe upcycled into diner room case

This old oak wardrobe is a familly legacy. We didn't want to get rid of it, but we didn't want to use it as wardrobe neither... It eventually found its place in our dining room. The interior frame is made out of steel, covered by 4mm thick glass shelves. The oak wardrobe was reassembled around the shelves.

dalmatian stair steps

 dalmatian-style garden stair steps

There were no direct access from our terrace to our garden... problem resolved with these 4 stair steps, made out of bricks, white concrete and black pebbles. The molds were made out of  cheap plywood boards.

the "serpentium"

 the "serpentium"

This is in fact the first project I realized... It seems like the body of this improbable monster go through the ground and walls. Made out of wire mesh covered with journal paper, glued with wall paper glue. It was originally painted in white... and remained so for more than 10 years now.

rasterbator

 rasterbatored picture frame

Rasterbator is a free program allowing you to make huge posters out of small (resolution) pictures. It uses a technique similar to newspaper picture printing: instead of having 50 (or more) shades of grey, it only use one color: black. The different apparent shades are caused by the sizes of the circular dots (replacing here pixels). The original image I used was of a resolution lower than 320 x 240, while the actual frame measures 164 cm x 109 cm. Personal touch: the picture was modified to look like it fades away on the 4 sides of the frame, givig a 3D aspect.
